Global Capacity Development Program in Renewable Energy

The SADC Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) provides technical expertise to the International Capacity Development Programme in Renewable Energy. The Programme aims at creating increased knowledge and capacity of selected organizations and participants about how different energy systems solutions based on renewable energy can be developed at different levels in society, from local communities without network connections to larger plants at national macro level. The beneficiary SADC Member States are Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

SAPP Program for Accelerating Regional Energy/Transformational Projects (SAPP-AREP)

The SADC Center for  Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) is cooperating with the Southern African Power Pool Coordination Centre (SAPP CC) in implementing a portion of the SAPP Program for Accelerating Regional Energy/Transformational Projects (SAPP-AREP) that relates to SACREEE. SAPP-AREP is funded by the World Bank with resources provided by the International Development Association (IDA) and Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF).

Southern African Solar Thermal Training & Demonstration Initiative (SOLTRAIN)

The Southern African Solar Thermal Training & Demonstration Initiative (SOLTRAIN) is a regional initiative on capacity building & demonstration of solar thermal systems in the SADC region. SOLTRAIN is funded by Austrian Development Agency and co-financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

H2 ATLAS-AFRICA: Atlas of Green Hydrogen Generation Potentials in Africa

The SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) and the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) are coordinating the H2 ATLAS-AFRICA project in the SADC region. The project is the first-phase of a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and African partners in the Sub-Saharan region (SADC and ECOWAS countries) to explore the potentials of green hydrogen production from the enormous renewable energy sources within the sub-regions.

Renewable Energy Decision Support (REDS) Tools project

Accelerate Large-Scale Renewable Energy Deployment in Southern Africa by Bridging Analysis and Application Through Decision Support Tools.

SADC Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support Facility

The SADC Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support Facility is being implemented in the sixteen-member countries of the SADC and builds on the Memorandum of Understanding between SACREEE and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), signed in February 2017, to support renewable energy market development in the SADC region through capacity building of small to medium sized entrepreneurs (SMEs).

Scaling up the Africa Clean Energy Corridor (ACEC) project

SACREEE has partnered with IRENA to scale up the Africa Clean Energy Corridor (ACEC) project. ACEC aims to accelerate the expansion of renewable electricity production, taking advantage of the continent’s enormous untapped potential and helping to sustain future growth through renewable power development zoning, planning processes, enabling mechanisms, capacity building and public information.

SADC Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (SIEEP)

SACREEE, with the support of the European Union Technical Assistance Facility (EU-TAF), is designing and developing a regional SADC Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (SIEEP), which is meant to support the implementation of the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap, 2015-2063.  SIEEP will contribute to the competitiveness of the industrial sectors of SADC Member States by building their capacity to adopt, invest and utilise energy efficient technologies and practices.  The target group are medium and large scale industries.
