Mzwandile Thwala

Mzwandile Thwala worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy in Eswatini for almost 9 years before joining SACREEE. Whilst in the Ministry he was overseeing the implementation of the rural electrification program, including planning and monitoring of the programs. He also led the development of a number of small-scale solar PV (Including water pumping) and LED lighting systems in public institutions. Most recently he developed the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy of Eswatini which stemmed the development of Eswatini's National Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan with assistance from the Southern Africa Energy Program. Mr. Thwala played a critical in the development of Eswatini’s Energy Master Plan 2034 and was also involved in the procurement of new power generation projects, particularly Solar. He worked with the Standards body in Eswatini to introduce standards on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Before joining the Government he worked in metallurgical processing, waste management, and food processing. Mr. Thwala holds a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering. He has received a number of training in renewable energy and energy management.
